Lev Manovich

Lev Manovich has been working with computer media as an artist, computer animator, designer, and programmer since 1984. He has created data visualizations commissioned by Google, New York Public Library, and The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. His art projects have been presented by, among others, Chelsea Art Museum, ZKM, The Walker Art Center, KIASMA (Finland), Centre Pompidou, ICA London, and Graphic Design Museum (The Netherlands). Lev has received grants from Andrew Mellon Foundation, the National Science Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, Andrew Mellon Foundation, and others. He is the author of Software Takes Command, Soft Cinema: Navigating the Database, and The Language of New Media. Manovich is a Professor at The Graduate Center, CUNY, and a Director of the Software Studies Initiative that works on the analysis and visualization of big cultural data. In 2013 he appeared on the List of 25 People Shaping the Future of Design. In 2014 he was included in the list of 50 "most interesting people building the future" (The Verge).
