Glow 2009 and the Kunstlicht in de Kunst

Just missed what looks like an incredibly cool festival in the Netherlands called “Glow”, the forum of light in art and architecture, apparently in its 4th year. Curated by Bettina Pelz and Tom Groll, during Glow “the city center of Eindhoven turns again into a forum of interventions, installations, performances and events based on the phenomena of artificial light.”

Some of these photographs on the homepage are super cool, I love the cathedral with the whitish splotchy projection on it.  That is one serious projector they used!  If you click on the English flag the site takes you directly to the 2009 festival, and I particularly enjoyed pictures 9, 10, 16 and 17 in the Pictures/Media section.

Eindhoven has branded itself as the “City of Light” and has great photos of the use of projection and lighting in architecture on its own website at lightcity.eu.

Glow is put on by the Museum of Artificial Light in Art, the Kunstlicht in de Kunst.  Looking at their name in dutch is the first time I consciously realized that the “art” in “artificial” is the same as the “art” in “art”.  Duh.

Other participating cultural institutions include the Design Academy Eindhoven and University of the Arts Bremen.
